   |
Dr.
Terry Russell was the founder of Centre for ISO9000 Ltd, he had huge passion to
assist businesses in their varying accreditation requirements. Terry was well
respected in the field for his level of knowledge in a multitude of industries
as well as his knowledge and familiarity with the varying ISO and other business
related standards. Terry's 2 children Emma and Daniel continue the legacy that
Terry created and he will be sorely missed. |

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) is the sole national
accreditation body recognised by government to assess, against
internationally agreed standards, organisations that provide
certification, testing, inspection and calibration services.
We only use UKAS Accredited Certification Bodies.

"ACCREDITED" Certification
We have been approached by a number of people recently, telling
us that they can get their ISO9001, 14001, 27001 or OHSAS18001 certificate
cheaper because they are using a "certification body" that can give
them consultancy and then perform the assessment. Now, this is not
permitted under the requirements of ISO17021, which covers the activities of
certification bodies. We have pointed out that these "certification
bodies" are not accredited by UKAS, and these people tell us that they have
been informed that the "certification body" is accredited by some
other body. The Department for Business Innovation & Skills states
that this is illegal. Their web page at http://www.bis.gov.uk/policies/innovation/standardisation/non-accredited-certification
states:
“Accreditation” within the meaning of
the Regulation can only be obtained (in the UK) from United Kingdom
Accreditation Service by virtue of the Regulation.
Any organisation therefore that is suggesting it is accredited in the sense of
the Regulation when they are not is likely to be guilty
of an offence under the Business Protection from Misleading Marketing
Regulations 2008 (Statutory Instrument
2008/1276).
So, if you have one of these unaccredited certificates, you
should report the "certification body" to your local Trading Standards
office. And we'd strongly advise that you don't try to use it when tendering for
work. You may get tarred with the same brush! You might even appear in the same
court.
